September is National Service Dog Month

September is National Service Dog Month – a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible, life-changing impact of service dogs around the world.

Since BluePath’s inception in 2016, 60 autism service dogs have been placed with children with autism. These remarkable dogs bring safety, independence, and connection not only to the children they assist, but to entire families who rediscover freedom and community through their support.

“Aidan’s experience of the world has been so dramatically improved due to the presence of his service dog. There are so many places he has been able to explore because of the safety provided by his dog. Dash has been our anchor navigating the city streets, the seaside, hiking and traveling among lots of various places and people.

“When people see Dash with Aidan, it changes their perception of him as a nonverbal teenager. As he is looking more like adult, tolerance of his unique noises and behaviors has dramatically decreased as it attracts negative attention at times. With Dash by his side, I watch people’s expression of judgment shift to curiosity when they see them working together as a team in the community.

“I believe these beautiful pups elevate awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of individuals such as Aidan in the world.” – Jennifer Frustace

Data overwhelmingly demonstrates that BluePath’s service dogs help to reduce the frequency of children wandering or bolting, regulate mood, facilitate connection, and provide joy and comfort to both the child and their family.
