Home Socialization volunteers take one or two, six to nine week old puppies into their homes for approximately two weeks.  

This special opportunity allows our future service dogs to experience the sights and sounds of a new environment while remaining close to our staff for veterinary care and assessment. All guidelines and support will be provided; no prior training necessary.  

Program Requirements

  • Live within 45 minutes of Wappingers Falls and have the ability to travel to our headquarters to pick up and drop off puppies and equipment.   
  • Care for one or two puppies for one to two weeks at a time.
  • Follow all cleaning, feeding and socialization guidelines provided.
  • Puppies should not be left alone for longer than two hours.      

Please note that Home Socialization opportunities are difficult to predict and may happen infrequently. If this isn’t a fit for you, please consider one of our other volunteer opportunities, such as sitting, puppy raising or fostering.
