1. What is the optimal size for a kennel run for a young adult dog?

An average size seems to be two 7’ x 7’ enclosures divided by verlin / guillotine doors.

2. What is the optimal size for kennel runs for puppies?

3. Do you prefer having adult dogs housed individually, or in groups of two or three?

4. Should kennel runs be indoor / outdoor in the NY area? Or does it make more sense for everything to be climate controlled?

5. What kind of kennel configuration (e.g., rectangular with center aisle, circular design, other) do you think best supports dog well-being?

6. What do you think about kennels on two floors, if there’s easy access to get outside? Would you prefer a one-story kennel? What about puppies upstairs and adults downstairs?

7. What should dogs be able to see from their kennels? Would a solid half-wall solve for that?

8. What is the best kennel enclosure? Full height walls? Glass fronts? Chain link material?

9. What’s the easiest / best way to get dogs to and from outdoor exercise runs? Any thoughts on how this integrates with an emergency evacuation plan?

10. The diagram shared above is a very early concept sketch. Are there any key spaces / rooms missing that we should make sure we include in our final kennel design – e.g., additional office space, enrichment / 1:1 spaces, volunteer room, etc?

Preferences on high pressure water?

Should hoses be wall mounted?

Do you like linear floor drains? Any other thoughts on drainage?

Best electric loads / power locations?

Ideal temperature settings?

Positive / negative experience with material choices.

Flooring/base – Epoxy?

Walls – smooth surface FRP (Fiberglass reinforced plastic) or wainscot w/ painted walls above?

Acoustic Ceiling Tiles (ACT) – brand?

Washable kitchen types?

LED lighting?

13. Anything you found particularly challenging about a previous kennel setup?

Cleaning, exercising dogs, etc.

14. Anything you loved and thought worked well in a previous kennel setup?

Dog health and comfort, enrichment, etc.
