BluePath Celebrates June Graduates

BluePath celebrates the placement of three new service dog teams, offering newfound hope and freedom to children with autism and their families.

“Graduation day is one of our most meaningful milestones,” said BluePath Chief Executive Officer Michelle Brier. “Today, we proudly send three more service dogs into the world to support families in living safer, fuller lives. We also recognize the dedicated volunteers and supporters whose collective efforts make this possible. It’s a powerful testament to what can be achieved when a community unites around a shared purpose.”

The demand for BluePath dogs is greater than ever before; one in every 31 children born today will develop an autism spectrum disorder (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). The propensity to wander or bolt is a hallmark behavior of autism and poses a significant threat to the well-being of children affected. Even the most routine trips outside the home can quickly transform into life-threatening experiences. To avoid disruption and risk, children and their families often retreat into the safer environments of their homes and experience significant social isolation as a result.

Leanne Martorello, from Wappingers Falls, NY, received BluePath Beanz for her seven-year-old son, Greyson.

“Greyson was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. Since then, our journey has been full of love, but it’s also come with challenges,” said Martorello. “One of the hardest things has been eloping — when Greyson suddenly runs off with no warning. BeanZ will give us peace of mind that just means everything.”

Service dogs are the only effective intervention to elopement in children with autism. BluePath is committed to serving children with autism and their families by providing high quality service dogs that offer safety, companionship, and independence – free of charge.

Carlos Scuderi and Viviana Chiappetta, from Poughkeepsie NY, received BluePath Hope for their eight-year-old son, Nico.

“We’ve often avoided public outings due to the risk of Nico eloping or wandering,” shared Scuderi. “BluePath dogs give families like ours a chance to breathe a little easier. To dream a little bigger. To feel a little less alone. We are so thankful for this gift.”

Shera Dressman received BluePath Hannah for their nine-year-old daughter, Sidney.

“BluePath helped raise the possibility of a full, supported, joyful life for our child,” said Dressman. “Hannah will forever change our daughter’s world.”
